Who may apply for a Blum Trust loan?

The Dr. Joseph M. Blum Trust supports Jewish medical and healthcare students with need-based interest-free loans up to $7,500 per year for each of four years. No interest is charged on the loans until ten years after the recipient finishes school or commences the practice of their health profession, whichever comes first (unless the recipeint leaves school before graduation).


Blum Trust loan applications will be considered from students entering or enrolled in schools accredited in the fields of:

  • Medicine
  • Dentistry
  • Podiatry
  • Pharmacy
  • Chiropractic
  • Nursing 
  • Or other allied health professions

Loan applicants must provide:

  • Documentation of their Jewish heritage and/or affiliation(s)
  • A copy of their most recent FAFSA form 
  • A transcript of their MOST RECENT college grades
  • A current tuition bill, or announcement of tuition charges
  • Live in one of the following locations: Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Monmouth, and Burlington counties in New Jersey, and Bucks county in Pennsylvania.

Loan recipients must: 

  • Maintain passing grades each and every year of their studies
  • Establish life insurance citing the Blum Trust as beneficiary in the total amount of the loan(s) to remain in effect until all funds are repaid
  • Provide a loan repayment guarantee 


Blum Trust loan applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. However, applicants are encouraged to allow sufficient time for our internal review process following their submission of all required forms and documents.
